Having come up through the ranks to become a partner in a large, long-established Toronto law firm, William (Bill) has a solid background in sophisticated client relations. Back then, his practice was 100% litigation. Clients of the firm included an array of construction companies, professional liability insurers, major manufacturing companies, financial institutions, property developers, and the Canadian Olympic Association.
Always a rebel at heart, he moved on to form an independent dance music record label in the mid-90’s that specialized in licensing tracks for compilation albums. Several albums released on the label were certified gold and platinum in Canada. At the same time, he opened his own law firm in downtown Toronto, concentrating on emerging areas in media and technology law.
Since that time he has pursued intellectual property and information technology law with a passion. Clients have included pop, dance, rock, hip-hop and jazz recording artists; DJs, producers, composers, record labels, managers, live event promoters, and radio stations; as well as software developers, film and tv producers, advertisers, online businesses and technology services providers. He is as much at home in the boardroom, as in the courtroom.
William is trademark agent registered in Canada and the United States; a lecturer at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, Toronto; and an executive member of the Ontario Bar Association, Entertainment, Media and Communications Section. He is heavily involved in contract negotiation and legal remedies in the areas of entertainment, technology, intellectual property & Internet business ventures.
